Why an engineer became a growth strategist

My career started in engineering and operations in Singapore. For more than 16 years I’ve worked in environments where systems either work or they don’t. There’s no room for guesswork when you’re responsible for equipment, teams and safety.

In 2019 I started applying that same systems thinking to marketing. As a freelance growth strategist on Upwork, Fiverr and PeoplePerHour, I helped businesses fix their SEO, set up Google Ads and build conversion tracking that actually measured sales, not just clicks.

Then I did something most marketers never do: I used it on my own businesses. As owner and project coordinator of MM Engineering Works, and through Fixing Guys SG and NexTech Waterproofing, I built the websites, ran the ads, optimised the Google Business Profiles and answered the WhatsApp enquiries myself.
